We're making a nice early start to our Halloween planning this year. New house, we've got some cool ideas. First job we ticked off - a spooky monster eye for the front door. So super easy to make, perfect if you have a round glass panel like us but it will still work on other style doors too. All you need is paper and glue. A big sheet of white paper, some black and a colour. We went with green, but you could do red or yellow etc. Just cut a big circle of white paper to a size big enough to cover your round window or fit the width of your front door. Next circle a bit smaller is your colour, smaller again for the black and a little circle of white to look light the light bouncing off. SO EASY! Glue together with some stick glue and for longevity have it laminated! You might also like...

If you follow the blog or our social media regularly you might have noticed we're big fans of the the rainbow cake, well, rainbows in general are pretty cool - but a rainbows and a cake! Perfection! So here are the ten absolute favourites we've come across to make your next party full of rainbow goodness. Instead of different layers of sponge in the colours, this cake uses the icing as well to create the rainbow shades.
Are we alone? Be inspired by an other-worldly trend we're seeing more of lately - flying saucers.
Here are some other alien ideas we love - a UFO made of a paper plate, half of an acrylic ball and a pom pom. A fun kids activity great for party decorations too. Delicious looking UFO cupcakes by Donna Hay. The recipe is no longer available but you can use this very similar step by step on Sweetest Kitchen. Summer is a pretty popular time of year to have a flamingo themed baby shower! Girly, pink and tropical it's the perfect party idea.
I could not resist sharing some of these amazing melting ice cream drip cakes (also known as upside down ice cream cakes)! These ones have been loaded up with all sorts of other goodies but you can find a fairly straight forward set of instructions on Mom Loves Baking here.
Well I thought this was a party trend that needed investigating! Yummmm. Thanks to instagram sprinkle drip cakes are really taking off. The best bit is Sprinklepop blog have got a great 'How To' on making these, check it out here.
Here are a few more pics to drool over from @brittanymaycakes the genius who came up with the idea. A thumbprint or fingerprint guest book is a fun alternative to your usual guestbook. It can be used at baby showers, weddings, christenings, birthdays and more; and rather than being tucked away in a drawer, after your event it makes a beautiful keepsake to display in your home and cherish forever. In the guest book shown above, the whale, guests place their fingerprint on the paper to represent a water drop as a symbol of their attendance. The guests could also then sign their name next the fingerprint. Below are a few tips we've picked up over the course of 10years creating fingerprint guest books. Ink and pens
To leave a fingerprint guests just press their finger onto a coloured ink pad then onto your design. Our favourite ink is momento dew drop ink. It is acid free, water based and fast drying and even comes is a cute little droplet shape. This is great for a leaf or water drop so in some cases you might prefer to just touch the ink pad straight onto the paper instead of using a finger. It can be nice to have a few different shades for guests to choose from too. Another brand to consider is color box. Fine art and scrapbooking pens are good for guests to sign with, try Faber Castell and Memory Marker. Sharpies are always popular and we also sell a dual tipped momento pen in black here. Clean up Just have a pack of wet wipes and a towel handy so guests can remove the excess ink right away. In many cases that may be all that's needed, sometime, especially with darker inks, guests might need to wash their hands with soap and water at some point to remove the tint. If you're still worried you can as mentioned above use the stamp straight onto the paper or consider a signature only guest book. Fingerprint guest book top tips
You can find a big selection of fingerprint guest book designs in the shop here. The slightly more 'traditional' unicorn cakes are so cute - but I do love these naughtier versions, especially the fat unicorn cake.
